Solar Cells

Solar cells are electronic components that can directly convert energy from sunlight into electrical energy. This process is called photovoltaic. Photovoltaic is derived from the Photo and voltaic, Photos can be define as a process of radiation from the sun that affects the collision between silicon atoms with photons from sunlight and are usually called energy. Voltaic means the release of electrons from silicon atoms due to the collision which accumulate on the negative pole. Photovoltaic is a process that uses sunlight directly. More details can
be said that sunlight can be converted directly into electric current with the help of solar cells. Now solar cells also known as Photovoltaic (PV).
Solar cells are usually made of silicon dioxide obtained from the rock from the mine. The rock is then crushed into small pieces of silicon for later compressed into the form of bars. These bars will be sliced into plates approximately 0.3 mm thick.
There are several important factors to be considered in the manufacture of solar cells:
  • Selection of materials used
  • Structure of charge
  • Separation Connection Systems
  • Anti-reflective layer.
Rear output contacts can be made closed or made one full flat layer. But the front could not be made flat because the light that comes will be blocked. A transparent material is selected to front contact. For example oxyd transparent of silicon materials and and assembled with conductive plate. With good planning system, the beam lost less than 5%.

Basic principles of semiconductor materials is easily reflect light coming. In the case of cells made from silicon, light will be reflected by approximately 30%. By providing the anti-reflective glass on the front of the light absorbed in the silicon cells become more numerous, so that the reflected beam loss is less 1-3%.Learn More
